How Does Selling My Motorhome Work?
22.03.23
Living the motorhome life is lovely, but it doesn’t last forever. Well, to be more accurate, it can last for as long as you want it to, though it’s pretty much guaranteed that at some point you’ll feel like visiting a motorhome traders and changing your vehicle. So it’s actually the vehicle that doesn’t last forever.
You could be looking to sell for the purposes of either upgrading or downsizing to a vehicle more suited to your developing needs. Perhaps you are actually doing neither of these things, and are looking to move the motorhome on because the lifestyle is simply no longer something that appeals, or is something you can manage. Or perhaps you have more immediate financial concerns pressing elsewhere, and selling your motorhome is a way to liquidise a valuable asset and get some much-needed cash into your cashflow! Whatever your reason for selling, there are several different ways you can do it - but by far the easiest and most convenient is to sell to us!
Our three-step selling process
Selling your motorhome to Continental is very easy. It really couldn’t be more simple. It boils down to a three-step process which is highly efficient. The first step is for you to send us details of the motorhome you wish to sell, and in return we will send you a free valuation. If you accept our offer, we’lll move onto the second step. That is to arrange collection (unless you prefer to drop the motorhome off at our showroom). Finally, the third step is when we send you payment. This is usually instant, making going through Continental Leisure’s We Buy Any Motorhome scheme an incredibly simple journey.
We also act as brokers
Another way you can sell through us is with our popular brokerage scheme. Continental Leisure has been acting as a broker for more than three decades and can offer a great package for you, which is likely to net you a higher return. The way it works is that, as motorhome traders, we are in a unique position to operate as the ‘middle man’ between you and potential buyers, facilitating sales. We have the necessary skills and expertise to manage the entire sale from beginning to end and will handle all enquiries about your motorhome or campervan, taking all responsibility off your shoulders and providing you with frequent updates throughout the process. In other words, we will do all the hard work for you and you only pay us our fee once the sale is complete.
Other ways you can sell
Once you are ready there are, of course, other ways you can sell your motorhome if you choose – and we’ll run through them briefly here.
- Outside your home: You could park up in your drive or on the street outside your home, and place a ‘for sale’ sign in the window of the vehicle. Bear in mind that your potential audience will be limited if you use this method.
- On the internet: If you’re thinking “I’ll sell my motorhome online” then using ‘selling sites’ or marketplace pages on social media can be a good way to go, but it does require all the effort of listing things and uploading photos etc. If tech is ‘not really your thing’ then it’s not the best method to use.
- Classified ads in a newspaper / publication: This is a bit more ‘old school’, but the notion that the print media is dead is nonsense. It may not be as popular as it once was, but there are regular publications for vehicle listings which remain extremely popular. The downside is the time between offering the listing and it being published.
- Auction: In every area of the country there are dedicated vehicle auction events, and you will be able to find the one closest to you by word of mouth or searching via the internet. It’s possible to sell your motorhome by offering it at an auction.
Things to do when selling your motorhome
To ensure that your motorhome is in its best possible ‘sale condition’, there are things you can do. It’s almost guaranteed that you will have looked after the motorhome to the best of your ability, making sure it has been cleaned regularly and that all necessary upkeep and maintenance has been performed throughout its time with you.
It’s unlikely that you will have invested in the vehicle in the first place to then treat it with disdain. A motorhome is a relatively big purchase, and so you are likely to have protected that show of financial faith. So, put very simply, the things you can do to prepare your motorhome for sale are to check that all of the maintenance ‘tasks’ (such as engine oil level, keeping rubber door and window seals supple etc) are up to date, and that everything is functioning correctly and, at the aesthetic level, that the vehicle is clean and tidy.
Ultimately, if you’re wondering “Who will buy my motorhome and how do I got about selling” then some of the tips offered in this blog will be of use to you. The really smart thing to do, of course, is to either use Continental Leisure as the broker for your sale – or sell to us and get yourself a nice handful of cash! Contact us to get the wheels rolling!
